A northside club

Mayfield is well served for football and boxing and has never had a grappling club. Anyone who wanted to train jiu-jitsu has been going into the city for it.

Aontach is on your own side of the river, in Ballyvolane, the next community over. No quays, no bridges, no parking meters. Just a short run across the northside and you’re on the mat.

The room was built by the coaches themselves and the people training in it are from around here. It isn’t a chain and it doesn’t feel like one.

What’s on

Adults and kids

Gi and NoGi for adults, lunchtime and evening, with freestyle wrestling in every session. Saturday open mat.

Kids classes run Monday to Thursday, ages 4 to 13 — PeeWees, Mighty Mights 1, Mighty Mights 2 and Juniors, each twice a week. Contact Yvonne on 085 123 4539 before the first session.

No striking, no experience needed, first adults class free.
