NoGi Grappling
Gym in Cork

Submission grappling in Ballyvolane, Cork City. Five NoGi sessions a week plus Saturday open mat — no jacket, no grips, everything faster.

If you’ve come from wrestling, judo or MMA and want somewhere to actually use it, this is the room.

 (01) · The difference

Gi vs NoGi

Same art, different problem. In the gi you can hold the jacket, so you can stall, grip-fight and set traps at a slower pace. Take the jacket away and there is nothing to hold — you control with your body, or you don’t control at all.

That makes NoGi faster, sweatier and more forgiving of athleticism. It also makes wrestling matter enormously, because getting on top is most of the battle and nobody can hold you there once you’re moving.

Most people at Aontach train both. Gi builds the technical detail, NoGi tests whether you actually have it.

Kit

What to bring

Shorts with no pockets, zips or drawstring toggles, and a t-shirt or rash guard. A mouthguard if you have one. Water.

That’s the whole list. No gi needed, no membership needed for a first visit, and no experience assumed — beginners drill with someone who knows what they’re doing.
